Oahe Dam Visitor Center

Located on the historic 1804 Highway, the Oahe Dam Visitor Center is open for visitors all year round! Learn about the making of the the world's fourth largest earth rolled dam on Lake Oahe. Peruse the historic pictures of President JFK's celebrated and commenmorative visit to Pierre. If you're needing to stretch your legs from your travels, watch a 6 minute video on the Oahe Dam project. The parking lot has a spectacular overlook of the Oahe Dam and Powerhouse, with two more overlooks located closeby on 1804.

The Oahe Dam Visitor Center is staffed by South Dakota Missouri River Tourism. Have questions about what to see in the area? We can help direct you on your journey! Stop by for free travel information, brochures, and magazines no matter where you are headed!

Oahe Dam Powerhouse Tours: The USACE offers free public tours in the summer of the Oahe Dam and Powerhouse, running from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is one tour per day at 1 PM Central Time, Tuesday - Saturday. All other tours must be scheduled in advance. A photo ID is required for anyone 18 years and older. 

While you're here, visit the historic Oahe Chapel and one room schoolhouse. The Chapel's wood interior has been restored as closely as possible to it's condition in 1907! If you would like to look inside the Chapel, you can request the key at the Oahe Dam Visitor Center.

The Oahe Dam Visitor Center is open daily.

Winter Hours: Monday through Friday, 10am to 4 pm
Summer Hours: Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm
